Diamond Three Ranch
Dedicated to building horses, not breaking them
My name is Maggie Menke, I am a seventh generation farmer and rancher in Hempstead, Texas. Growing up in the industry, I've always had a passion for animals, but I was an underdog when it came to the rodeo world. In 2020 I trained my first barrel horse. He was given to me for Christmas in 2019. He was just a grade gelding that had been out in the pasture for years. No one really saw much potential in him to be a barrel horse. But I was determined to take what I had and turn him into something. After research, clinics, and countless hours in the crazy Texas weather, I finally had him turning cans. I entered in a few local jackpots and became a member of The YRA in 2022. Since then, I've increased my herd of barrel horses and cow horses, all of which I've trained myself. I love being able to build a horse from the ground up and learn with the horse.
The 3 was an original brand in my family dating back to the 1850s when my family started ranching cattle. I also chose the diamond because its my birthstone.
At Diamond Three Ranch, we believe in building a horse, not breaking it. What that means is, trust has to be established between horse and rider. I use gentle methods to make a horse trust me and not fear me.
At Diamond Three Ranch we work with not only the horse, but the rider as well. The connection between horse and rider is so important. We want to make sure we go about training a horse in a way that's suitable for its rider.
Training only offered to select horses. All horses MUST be broke to ride. Horses will be pasture boarded here and fed twice a day. Hay and feed must be provided by owner.
Horses will be started on the barrel pattern. They will learn to relax around the barrels and correctly switch leads.
Horses will be started slow and eventually work up to loping through the pattern on correct leads. They will learn to keep consistent speed throughout the pattern as well.
Horses will be ridden on trails, through creeks, around cattle and many other scenarios to desensitize young horses.
I don't just specialize in horses! I can house sit and feed any of your pets!
